All reports provided by Over 40 first baseman Evan Schapiro, who was kind enough to bring his laptop
along for the trip and keep us up to date - Thanks, Evan. Monday, October 9th Game 1 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt vs. LA Dodgers at Indian School Field Tuesday, October 10th Game 2 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt vs. Ventura Indians at Peoria Field #6 Wednesday, October 11th Game 3 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt vs. Fresno Stars at Peoria Stadium Game 4 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt vs. Bases Loaded Sharks Thursday, October 12th Game 5 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt vs. Dallas-Fort Worth Yankees at Tempe Field #3 Friday, October 13th Playoff Game 1 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt vs. Portland |
Game 1 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt 9, LA Dodgers 0 The Dodgers could not put a complete team together, so Lowell won by forfeit. Half of the Dodger plays on an Over 30 team and they didn't make it to the game in time. |
Game 2 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt 12, Ventura Indians 4 We had another interesting day. Our games today were in Peoria, about an hour drive from the hotel. It's the home of the Mariners and the Padres, another beautiful facility. Believe it or not, it poured here last night and was raining this morning. The drive was extra long because some of the streets were flooded. Anyway, we left here at 7:00 am for our 9:15 am start, only to get there and find that they delayed all start times by 2 hours. After a 1 hour wait, we learned that they delayed our game another 3 hours (so we ended up with a 2:00 pm start time) and cancelled the back half of our scheduled doubleheader. It felt good when 2:00 pm rolled around and we finally got to play some baseball. Mike Fratus was on the mound and pitched great - a complete game! We got down 1-0 early, but it could have been much worse - Jim Shaughnessey nailed a runner at the plate from right field. Joe Davis evened the score with a double and scored I believe on a wild pitch. It was 2-1 for awhile, then the Indians threw the ball around a bit and gave us a couple of big innings to give us a 9-1 lead. We let them back in with so it was 9-4 and then scored three more for the 12-4 (or maybe 5?) final score. We play a team from Fresno tomorrow. Still no word on when we makeup the postponed game. |
Game 3 - Lowell Catcher's Mitt 14, Fresno Stars 6 We played 2 games today, one at 11:15 at Peoria Stadium (home of the Padres) and the makeup game this evening at 7. We won the first game, 14-6 against the Fresno Stars. That put us at 3-0! Jim Shaughnessy pitched a complete game. |
Game 4 - Bases Loaded Sharks defeat Lowell Catcher's Mitt We lost this evening's game to the Bases Loaded Sharks. I'm not sure of the final score. We were in it early, but they had a couple of big innings. We were in danger of being skunked, but came back - I think we lost by 6, but I'm not sure of the final score. So we're 3-1 going into tomorrow's final game and then hopefully we start the playoffs on Friday. |
Game 5 - Dallas-Fort Worth defeat Lowell Catcher's Mitt Quick update: We got skunked this morning by the DFW Yankees. We're now 3-2 and definitely in the playoffs!! We probably won't know until this evening where/when we play tomorrow, but our first game should be at 8:00 or 11:00 am. |
Playoff Game 1 - Playoff Game 1 - Portland 14, Lowell Catcher's Mitt 4 We lost today's quarterfinal against Portland (they were called the DirtWorks last year). We lost 14-4. We had a couple of bad innings and didn't hit very well. As always, it was great fun. |
